Demi Lovato

By Feb 17, 2023

“I’m such a fluid person when it comes to my gender, my sexuality, my music, my creativity,” Lovato shared. Lovato ends the album on a similarly hopeful note with “Good Place,” a quietly powerful, mostly acoustic track about how she once chose “drugs over love.” But after putting in the hard work to better herself, she’s now “doin’ alright.” The “Young and the Restless” actor briefly flirted with fame last July when he got engaged to Lovato, only for them to call it quits two months later. Leading up to the split, many of Ehrich’s old posts resurfaced on social media, in which he appeared to badger Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande with marriage proposals and flirtatious comments. What Pride means to me is just being yourself in the most authentic way that you can. So celebrating that, and getting to celebrate my single at the same time, is really exciting.

  1. Lovato ends the album on a similarly hopeful note with “Good Place,” a quietly powerful, mostly acoustic track about how she once chose “drugs over love.” But after putting in the hard work to better herself, she’s now “doin’ alright.”
  2. And in doing so, I think it made an anthem for people who struggle with addiction.
  3. After signing with Hollywood Records, Lovato released her pop rock debut album, Don’t Forget (2008), which debuted at number two on the U.S.
  4. According to Lovato’s Instagram, they use both they/them and she/her pronouns.

A Sheryl Crow-style rock anthem about Lovato’s somewhat polarizing choice to be “California sober,” meaning she drinks alcohol and smokes weed in moderation. In the song’s first verse, the singer explains that she’s “tired of being known for my sickness” and of “history repeating” itself, having suffered relapses while striving to be 100% sober. In her YouTube docuseries, Lovato reveals that she was temporarily legally blind when she woke up in the intensive care unit following her overdose. Her younger half-sister, Madison, was standing by her hospital bed but the singer was unable to see her.

If you go back into my older catalog — listen to my first album, my second album — [there’s] definitely the pop-rock influence. At her home studio in Los Angeles, Lovato posed for a photo with representatives from her record label and management team, led by Scooter Braun, who were all, incidentally, dressed in black. At the center of the picture sat Lovato, raising two step 1 of aa: admitting you’re powerless over alcohol middle fingers to the camera; “a funeral for my pop music,” she captioned the image on Instagram. In May 2019, Lovato announced that they had signed with manager Scooter Braun, who also oversees the careers of pop stars Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande. “I am confident, but I still have my moments”, begins “La La Land”, the first song on Demi Lovato’s 2008 debut album.

The sonic and lyrical urgency of the single tees up Holy Fvck, Lovato’s eighth studio album, due out Aug. 19 – one day before Lovato’s 30th birthday – on Island Records. After Lovato worked with producer Warren “Oak” Felder to nail the sound of “Skin of My Teeth,” expect a lot more guitars in the mix on the forthcoming album, as well as a more head-banging vibe when Lovato takes the project on the road in North America and South America this fall. Demi Lovato woke up legally blind in an intensive care unit after the July 2018 drug overdose that nearly killed her. It took about two months to recover enough sight to read a book, and she passed the time catching up on 10 years’ worth of sleep, playing board games or taking a single lap around the hospital floor for exercise. Blind spots made it nearly impossible to see head-on, so she peered at her phone through her peripheral vision and typed using voice notes.

“You hear about labels shelving people or holding them without pushing them so often, and I can’t say how grateful I am that isn’t me,” he added. “I had been wishing I could be indie again for a while just because I love being totally in charge of my own career, so it worked out quite nicely.” Lovato announced that they would be using she/her pronouns again in August 2022, per CNN. According to Lovato’s Instagram, they use both they/them and she/her pronouns. On the “Spout” podcast, Lovato said they have “been feeling more feminine.” Still, Lovato continues to celebrate their fluidity in so many other aspects of their life.

Tell Me You Love Me (Rock Version) (Lyric Video)

Some songs are definitely pop-punk and has more of a vibe [of the sound] which is coming back into music, but there are also songs in there where I go pretty f–king hard — and I’m really excited for people to hear those songs too, because it just keeps showing a different side of [myself]. While writing those early records, she sank her teeth into the tortured melodrama of acts like emo mainstays what came first, the alcohol, or the alcoholic thinking Paramore, Christian metal band Flyleaf and the pop-rock singer Kelly Clarkson, whose songs Lovato wore out in the privacy of her headphones. From them, Lovato learned to throw her body into her otherwise supple voice, suffusing every peak and valley of a song with a magnitude fitting for rock. Lovato was the star of their own Disney Channel television show called Sonny with a Chance.

Sexuality, gender, and relationships

On July 24, 2018, the singer was rushed to the hospital for an apparent overdose. TMZ reported that they were found unconscious and was revived with Narcan, a medication to reverse the effects of a narcotic overdose. They were later said to be in stable condition at the hospital, with ex-boyfriend Valderrama frequently dropping by to check on their condition. While on tour with the Jonas Brothers in 2010, Lovato got into an altercation with a dancer. According to People magazine, the singer sought help for “emotional and physical issues.” Some of these issues were later revealed to be an eating disorder, self-harm through cutting and bipolar disorder.

Lovato, 30, came out as nonbinary in May 2021 but announced a little over a year later that they readopted she/her pronouns. At the time, they said it was because they were “feeling more feminine,” but the singer gave a more detailed explanation to GQ Hype Spain in an interview published Tuesday. I went into this album with the intention of separating myself from the music that I’ve been doing, and embarking on a new journey that was grounded in the roots of where my music started.

The series debuted in 2009, becoming one of the channel’s most popular programs and making Lovato one of its brightest stars. “When i got asked to pull up and write for this session i remember thinking wtf am i supposed to do in a demi lovato session? only to show up and realize she was making one of the hardest rock projects i’ve ever heard,” he continued. “obviously a crazy milestone for me but beyond that i feel so blessed to be a part of something i’m such a big fan of.” The unapologetic lead single to Demi’s sophisticated sixth album Tell Me You Love is a fun, quirky song inflected with trop-pop undertones. It became their fifth UK Top 10 single overall and is actually her second-most streamed song in the UK; amassing streams of over 115 million. Early last year, Demi Lovato returned to music with comeback single “Anyone,” a devastating cry for help recorded just four days before her near-fatal drug overdose in July 2018.

“Took a long time to be ready but i’ve never felt better mentally and emotionally. if ur dealing with s— rn that feels never ending just know nothing lasts forever.” In the docuseries “Dancing With The Devil,” Demi Lovato said that she believes she is “too queer to marry a man.” The former Disney Channel star notably ended her engagement with Max Ehrich, calling the relationship “false advertising,” according to Insider. “I want to allow myself to live my life in the most authentic form possible, which I just haven’t done because of my past,” Lovato said (via Us Weekly). Lovato has opened up about their gender identity multiple times, coming out as non-binary on Instagram in 2021. “Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be,” they wrote. “Please keep living in your truths.” Lovato has continued to live their truth, openly sharing details about her sexuality (via BuzzFeed).

They started their show business career in earnest at the age of 10 when they became a series regular on the children’s television show Barney & Friends. After a stint on Barney & Friends, Lovato guest-starred on the television dramas Just Jordan and Prison Break. In his interview with Nuance Magazine, he opened up about his passion for songwriting, calling it his “therapy.” “I really live to write songs,” he told the publication.

“Life is good. [Jutes’] encouragement and respect have helped her immensely.” She’s experimented a lot – from uplifting anthems like This Is Me (9), pure pop statement Give Your Heart A Break (17) and ultra-personal balladry on tracks such as Sober (15) and Stone Cold (11). The situation paralleled Lovato’s 2012 decision to get clean after her parents told her she was barred from seeing Madison until she was sober. It wasn’t difficult at all for me — I’m so used to being open with my fans, and being vulnerable with my music. What happened was, you know, I did go back to treatment, and when I came out, I saw all of these headlines that were like, “Demi leaves treatment again! ” And I’m like, “F–k you, I’m going to write a song about that, and I’m putting that headline in the first line.” So it just was owning my narrative — owning the fact that this is my story, and I’m going to tell it, and I don’t need anyone else to tell it.
